Most of the many furnished student accommodations we offer are located in the Summerstrand area within a 5-15 minute walking distance from the North, South and 2nd Avenue campuses of the Nelson Mandela University. We also have a limited number of student accommodations in the pick n' Pay beachfront area on the free of charge Nelson Mandela University's shuttle service route. Two shopping centres (Spar and Pick & Pay) and an entertainment centre (Boardwalk) as well as the beach are within walking distance from our accommodations.
Summerstrand is one of Port Elizabeth’s most beautiful suburbs bordering the Nelson Mandela University's grounds and nature reserve on the South and the Indian Ocean on the East. Our accommodations are in town houses and flats with well-kept gardens and communal areas. Living conditions in our student housing is of a high standard which easily meet and even exceed Nelson Mandela University’s accreditation requirements.
Students can choose whether they want to live in single gender or mixed gender accommodations. In mixed gender accommodations designated bathrooms are reserved for the respective gender.
All Student Accommodation Consultancy properties are Covid-19 compliant and our cleaning company Disinfects the properties before students arrive.
To maintain the high standard of our student accommodations we have cleaning and maintenance services in place. A maintenance team is employed to attend to unit maintenance and is on standby for maintenance emergencies. A staff member is on standby after normal office hours and during weekends in case of an emergency. Contact details will be supplied to the students on arrival.
Our weekly cleaning service assists students with keeping their communal areas clean and hygienic. By arrangement students may request assistance from the cleaning service in order to keep their private room clean provided that they are personally in attendance during cleaning.
We also supply a dedicated wireless internet service that is Uncapped for each student, which affords them the opportunity to do research, submit assignments and communicate with their lecturers, family and friends from the comfort of their private room. Availability of internet at the accommodation also contributes to the student’s safety as returning home after dark as a result of research time spent at the universities library is no longer required.
All major furnishings are supplied in our student accommodations and items such as a stoves, refrigerator and a microwave are present. To ensure personal hygiene, bedding (blankets, sheets and pillows), pots, pans, crockery and cutlery plastic containers etc, must be supplied and kept clean by each individual student.
Electricity is supplied to each of our houses via prepaid meters. It is estimated that each student tenant will need to contribute between R250 to R300 per month towards electricity.
As a value added service we will purchase the electricity on behalf of all of our student tenants at the beginning of each month and then invoice their individual rental accounts with their share. This will help ensure that electricity contributions are fair and timeous as well as save our students the hassle (and risk) of having to go all the way to the local convenience store to purchase their share of electricity.
Security
Security of our students and their belongings is a high priority. As a result we do all we can to ensure everything possible is done to make our student accommodations safe. At the same time we recognize that students also need to take responsibility for their own safety and therefore we give our student tenants’ safety tips when they arrive and communicate regularly with them regarding safety and security matters.
In addition we have implemented a unique Student Monitoring System. Our students are given an emergency "Help You" telephone number to call, sms or whatsapp day or night if they feel unsafe or threatened in any way. Using this emergency number cuts out delays caused by control rooms and connects students directly to a security monitor who will immediately respond.
The Student Monitoring System is also used to ensure that students abide by the Rules of Residence with particular emphasis on unacceptable social behavior such as drunkenness, parties and disturbing each other and neighbours with loud music or other disturbing behaviour.
